Homeless Prevention & Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP)

HPRP exists to bridge the gap between homeless shelters and mainstreem services. This program's goal is to help prevent people from losing their rental properties or get them re-housed as soon as possible after becoming homeless. The program provides temporary help to those who already have both an income and the ability to be self-sufficient. Funding for the HPRP program has been provided by the City of South Bend from a grant through HUD called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009. While there are other programs in the city that use the same funds, the unique criteria that Youth Service Bureau has for its HPRP program can be found on the right-hand sidebar. Due to the popularity of the program and the limited availabiliy of funds, HPRP is currently not taking any new participants.

After a person has been confirmed eligible for the program they can expect to be assigned an advocate from the program who will help them obtain funding for a number of things, including arrears in rent and utilities, deposits for units and utilities, and a portion of the rent/utilities (dependent on income and household size). Assistance could last for up to 9 months to a year. Case management is also provided to help identify the issues that lead to the need for services in an effort to assist participants to become more capable of success and connect them with other resources in the area.
