Early Learning Indiana grant to strengthen Family Success and Self-Sufficiency Program

We are honored to share that Youth Service Bureau (YSB) of St. Joseph County has been highlighted in a statewide grant award from Early Learning Indiana! This grant allows us to strengthen Family Success and Self-Sufficiency Program, providing life-changing support to young parents and their children at risk of homelessness.

Thanks to this opportunity, YSB has hired a fourth home visitor and increased our capacity to reach more families. With fewer wait times, new outreach initiatives, and personalized home-based visits, our team is breaking down barriers for families in need. Whether it’s helping parents secure childcare vouchers, access developmental services, or advocate for their child’s milestones, our case managers offer essential support right from birth to age three.

Our expanded services now include trauma-informed care through Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), and our staff has been trained as certified car seat technicians. We’re also utilizing the “Talk with Your Baby” curriculum to help parents engage in simple yet impactful conversations that build children’s language skills early on.

As Desiree Hermosillo, Family Service Coordinator at YSB, emphasizes:

“When parents are educated and supported, they can nurture their children into happy, healthy members of society, enhancing both their children’s well-being and their own.”

YSB helps young parents become the strongest advocates for their children. Early intervention is the key to setting children on the right path for lifelong success. We are beyond grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue transforming the lives of St. Joseph County families!
