Over the Edge is BACK!
Over the Edge is back! If you didn't get to participate last year - now is your time to shine!
Over the Edge is the coolest event of the summer! What other event offers you the opportunity to rappel down the side of a building in downtown South Bend?
In case you haven't heard about Over the Edge before - it is a one of kind event, and a giant fundraiser for YSB.
YSB's vision is for all youth in the St. Joseph County area to have access to safety, shelter and hope.
YSB makes contacts with over 20,000 youth during the year. Through these contacts, YSB is able to connect with many youth who are homeless, or on the verge of homelessness, or may just need a safe place to go because they were kicked out of their home.
Thanks to programs like YSB's Safe Place program, and Street Outreach team, youth are continually updated on the resources available to them and to their friends, if they are ever in a difficult situation and don't know where to go or who to talk to.
YSB also provides immediate, emergency shelter for youth, and a transitional living program as well.
The Over the Edge fundraiser helps provide additional funds for these services.
Over the Edge is a fundraiser in which amazing people like you, sign up to fundraise for YSB. If you fundraise $1,000 or more, you have the opportunity to rappel down the side of the Robertson's Building in downtown South Bend on Friday, October 4.
The event will go from 2pm-9pm that day, and will happen in conjunction with DTSB's First Friday event. There will be live music, a kids' area, and lots of fun things to do.
Rappelers will get their official times before the event.
Do I need prior experience to participate?
Not at all! The Over the Edge technicians will provide all the training and support you need to get "Over the Edge" safely.
What is the minimum age to rappel?
Anyone 16 years or older can rappel. Anyone under age 18, must have parental consent.
When is the fundraising deadline?
The deadline for fundraising is October 1st at midnight.
Can I wear a costume?
Yes, you absolutely can! The technical team will do their best to make your costume work for your rappel. The technical team also has the final say in whether or not your costume is safe enough to rappel. Stringy, loose, or excessive costumes will not be allowed. Any costumes that would not allow for a helmet to be worn safely are also not allowed.
What is the minimum/maximum weight for rappeling?
Over the Edge's safety standards require that people must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds to safely rappel.
